Frog Eats Monkey WIP06 Cast I

Description

My first casting was a total failure. The hole I cut in the rubber mold was way too thin and created a giant air bubble when I poured the resin. It made me sad. But I learned a lot from screwing up.

Oh, I'm using Smooth-On Smooth Cast 300 two-part resin. It sets wicked fast.

Yep. What's good though is that it's not very viscous at all, so it makes for quick mixing. However, the faster you mix, the more air you introduce into the resin, which could cause unwanted air bubbles. Smooth-On does make additives you can put into your resin that will retard the curing a bit if you want to be able to work a bit more.

Also, consider adding a second spout as a vent hole. The more resin you pour into the mold with one spout, the harder it will be for that air to be displaced. Adding a second spout for the sole purpose of air displacement is key to these kinds of molds.
